Dear Families,

Everyone will attend from 8:00-2:30 on Thursday September 7 and 8:00-1:40 on Friday September 8.
NECESSITIES (please bring every day):
- Healthy Snack – fruit, vegetable, raisins, cheese, crackers, pretzels, etc. and a water bottle. Remember to label bottles clearly. Please be sure that all snack food is nut free and clearly labeled "snack" since nuts are allowed at lunch only not snack. (please note that since we have an early lunch, snack is in the afternoon at 1:30 M-Th, 12:30 on Fridays. We will not have snack on the first day of school).
- Lunch - Please try to send food that your child can manage independently. (please note that our lunch time is early at 10:30, so we do not have morning snack. Therefore it is important that your child eat breakfast before school). **On the first day of school we will have lunch but not snack. School lunch will be available.
- Change of Clothes – please send a complete extra set of clothes to school to be used in case of accidents. Each item should be clearly labeled with your child’s name in a Ziploc freezer bag. Please label the bag as well.
- Arrival – We will be asking you to say your good-byes promptly outside. Arrival and dismissal is at the outside door near the upper playground. The classroom door will open at 7:55am. At 8:02 this door will close. If you arrive after 8:00 please enter through the main doors and sign your child in.
- Dismissal – The Kindergarten day ends at 2:30 p.m. on Monday-Thursday. Please note that Friday dismissal is at 1:40 p.m. We will not dismiss your child to anyone other than those you have authorized, so be sure to inform us of any changes in pickup (if it is a last minute switch, please inform the office and also send a message via Seesaw, to ensure that we receive the message). Prompt pick up is crucial, please make every effort to ensure that your child is picked up on time every day. On the first day dismissal is at 12:00pm. Please make sure you are aware of which day your child is coming for their first day, either Tuesday 9/5 or Wednesday 9/6. If you did not get the email regarding this, please email Mr. Dentizio at [email protected] and he can let you know
- Seesaw - will be used as a learning platform, as well as to share pictures and give a personalized window into students’ school day. Stay tuned for more info on this!
- Birthdays – We will celebrate the birthday child and make a birthday book for him/her so there is no need to bring anything in from home. Note that we will not have food as part of our celebrations.
- Parent Conferences – There will be two formal parent/teacher conferences to discuss your child’s progress. We will share information as it gets closer.
- Communication - We believe that a good parent/teacher relationship is key for maximum school success! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We will also be able to communicate through Seesaw.
We look forward to a productive and enriching year!
Sincerely,
K Teachers
Birthdays in KC
For birthdays this year we will be celebrating by having a party including singing to the birthday child and making a "birthday book" for him/her. We will not be having food as part of our birthday celebrations. It is not necessary for you to bring in anything for your child's birthday celebration.
Also, when inviting classmates to parties outside of school, if you cannot invite the whole class, consider inviting all the boys or all the girls. Unless you are inviting everyone, please do not send invitations in to school. You can either send out an electronic invitation or mail them out.
Last, please be mindful of making sure your child's birthday party is inclusive and welcoming to all. Here is an article with tips to having an inclusive birthday party.

Adaptive Learning Center
One important part of Lincoln School is our district-wide program called the Adaptive Learning Center, or ALC. Students throughout the district in grades K-8 attend this program.
From the BPS Special Education Programs page:
"This program services students with severe/profound disabilities (academic skills significantly below grade level). Some students have medically complex profiles. The Adaptive Learning Center (ALC) serves students in grades K-8 who have a wide range of disabilities including developmental, physical and cognitive disabilities."
We will talk often as a class about differences in learning and functioning that each unique person in the world has. Sometimes students around the school may have more visible or obvious differences, but we emphasize that each of us is unique and that "disability" really just means a different way of doing things that often requires some adaptation. In our discussions we will make sure that students feel comfortable in asking questions about themselves and others through various books, activities and class talks on the subject. If you would like to borrow any books or have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Also, when planning playdates, birthday parties or other events, please look for activities and venues that are accessible and inclusive. Here are some suggested activities and resources:
